Harringtons Cocktail Lounge in Cape Town’s trendy East City is everyone’s Gatsbian dream for a stylish night out. It’s chic and classy, and they know how to serve up great tapas and some of the best cocktails in town.
While the Covid-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc for so many Cape Town bars and restaurants, Harringtons is still going strong with strict Covid regulations in place and some amazing specials that are pretty hard to beat.
Some Covid updates:
- New opening times: Wednesday – Friday (16:00 – late), Saturday (10:30 – late)
- Covid sign-in, temperature check, and masks required
- Venue operating at limited capacity so booking is recommended
If you haven’t been, let me introduce you to Harringtons Cocktail Lounge and all the amazing deals they’re running.
Why Do We Love Harringtons Cocktail Lounge?
If you’ve never been to Harringtons, you may not know what makes this venue so special.
Of course, you can visit any other venue in town for great food and drinks, but very few offer the same venue appeal as Harringtons does.
I’ve always described it as Gatsbian. When I first walked in for their launch party oh-so-many years ago, I was immediately struck by the golden bar, the plush booths, the ambience that speaks of a time long gone.
Then, I referred to it as harking back to the Roaring 20s, the Gatsbian era of F. Scott Fitzgerald, and I still stick to my initial interpretation.
The venue leaves you feeling chic and cosy, the service has always been astounding, and there’s always great food, great drinks, and good happy-dance music.
Harringtons Cocktail Lounge Menu & Prices
Harringtons may have the appeal of an upmarket venue, but they keep their prices pretty reasonable.
With cocktails and tapas averaging around R60 and a hoard of hard-to-beat deals, Harringtons actually offers some of the best dining value in town.
Harringtons Food Menu
The food at Harringtons is far from average, with Chef Jessica Dean taking the helm in recent months.
Some I Love Foodies favourites include:
- Mozzarella Arancini (R55): Served with a tomato ragout.
- Crumbed & Fried Fish Tacos (R75): With corn salsa, garlic creme, and pickled red onion.
- Pan-Seared Rib-Eye (R175; main course): Served with potato puree, pak choy, brown mushrooms, artichokes, chilli-soy and truffle butter.
Of these, I’d probably have to say that the pan-seared rib-eye is my absolute favourite.
It’s certainly not your standard steak-on-a-plate dish but it will excite your tastebuds one bite at a time. I can quite confidently say that this is one of the best steak dishes I’ve had in my entire life.
With Harrington’s re-opening, there is a limited menu available – but they will undoubtedly expand to their full menu in due course.
Harringtons Cocktail Menu
Harringtons Cocktail Lounge has always been known for their amazing cocktail menu.
Of course, their entire drinks menu is spectacular, and they offer a wide selection of classic and house cocktails, beers, ciders, wines, champagne, and hard spirits.
They also offer something in every price range.
You can spend a few thousand Rand on a bottle of Dom Perignon if that’s your vibe. But you can also spend under R100 for one of the best Margaritas in town.
Harringtons Cocktail Lounge Specials
Daily Happy Hour & Half Price Tapas
Every day is a happy day at Harringtons Cocktail Lounge, with happy hour drink deals and half-price tapas every day (Wednesday – Saturday).
Happy Hour (16:30 – 17:30) includes:
- 2-for-1 deals on classic cocktails and select beers, spirits, and house wines
Half-price tapas (16:00 – 17:30) includes:
- 50% off all tapas on the menu
I Love Foodies recommendation? Come at around 17:00 and order ahead for an early dinner. Two cocktails are plenty and 2-3 tapas is more than enough (3-5 if you’re very hungry). You can always grab another drink or dessert later in the evening.
Tapas & Tastings Wednesday
These are probably the best evenings at Harringtons.
Each month, they collaborate with a different wine estate, and you’ll get to enjoy a delicious dinner paired with one of the wines PLUS a full wine tasting.
A representative from the estate will always be there to answer all your questions about the wine.
I always end up in lengthy discussions with the wine estate host and usually walk away smarter than I was before, which, in my book, makes for a great evening.
You’ll definitely enjoy your Tapas & Tastings evenings.
R190 per person gets you:
- Aperitivo glass of wine on arrival
- One main meal
- A glass of wine of your choice with the main meal
- Petit four dessert platter
- Complimentary wine tasting
If you’re not interested in the meal deal, you can also join in for the wine tasting only at R50 per person.
The wine partner for April 2021 is Edgebaston, and the wines you can enjoy include the David Finlayson Sauvignon Blanc (welcome drink), David Finlayson Chardonnay, David Finlayson The Pepper Pot, and the David Finlayson Cabernet Sauvignon.
