There are few places I frequent as much as Village Idiot. For me, it offers the perfect combination of party vibes, chill vibes, and, of course, foodie vibes. And their foodie vibes are becoming more and more attractive to me with a gazillion specials that tickle my taste buds.
One of these is their Tuesday Dates & Mates special, where guests get to enjoy one of three options. Firstly, they can choose to munch on a 600g Beef Prime Rib steak, served with carrot puree, asparagus, horseradish cream, and a side of house-made coleslaw and fries, together with a bottle of Village Chenin Blanc or Red Blend. Then, guests can also choose two pulled pork burgers, served with coleslaw and a jug of Standard Premium Lager. Lastly, diners can choose to have the Village Table Salad served with a bottle of Chenin Blanc.
Obviously the point of all of these specials is to bring people together and share, and not necessarily in a romantic way. Hence it’s Dates and Mates. I visited them sans romantic partner and dragged my sister along for another foodie adventure (she’s loooooving this part of my life), and since I’m a total carnivore (in a nice non-creepy way), we went for the 600g prime rib steak option.
Now, I’ve eaten at Village Idiot a gazillion times before and have always enjoyed their food, but they have really levelled up in the last few months, going from plain good and hearty food to good and hearty food with a twist of fine dining. Absolutely perfect for a foodie like me! I loved that the steak came out in that giant portion and it could easily have been a very rustic meal, but their new chef decided to mix it up classy with dollops of puree and touches of magic. And it definitely works.
If you haven’t been to Village Idiot yet (if so, where have you been the last year???), then I can most definitely recommend it. If you’re a foodie like me, Tuesdays are definitely your special days, but come the winter months there will also be some amazing new things in store, so stay tuned for that!
We’ll be back on Thursday with a gorgeous recipe. Enjoy the public holiday!
Much foodie love.
