The Wonderful Radisson RED OUIBar + KTCHN
I Love Foodies was recently invited to celebrate women with Radisson RED and their OUIBar + KTCHN. And we at I Love Foodies love celebrating good things. So, as any gal would do, I grabbed my bestie and made my way to the fun Radisson RED to celebrate, well, us, with a bunch of awesome women!
The OUIBar + KTCHN is located on the ground floor of the Radisson RED in the Silo District. With all the attention the rooftop bar gets, I was super excited to experience a different part of the Radisson RED Hotel. Gin cocktail in hand, my bestie Bi and I joined one of the three large tables set up for the event.
Welcome to RED
Leonie from Radisson RED soon welcomed us to the event and introduced us to Chef Maxine and the new menu. As we are in Cape Town, we tend to love local. And the new menu incorporates ingredients from within a 60km radius! Also, turns out there is a vertical garden on top of the Radisson RED that provides much of the produce. Sounds like a win-win to me!
We were served a selection of starters to share amongst the table. A definite winner for me was the Legally Green Salad (green beans, baby peas, baby spinach, avo, garlic chips, lemon and caper dressing, R95). Salads are usually not my thing, but this one was incredible and full of flavour!
Another favourite was the Not A Rump MisSteak – 50g of sliced rump with cilantro chimichurri and minted tzatziki (R85).
We also tried the colourful Kon’nichi Keen-Wha – quinoa, exotic tomatoes, red cabbage, cucumber, Mangetout, chilli and lime dressing (R75).
Crispy Kraken (tempura-fried calamari, R85) and the vegan Total Nut Job (deep-fried tofu, R85) were also on the table.
Mains for Mains
For mains, there was a selection of fun-looking mini burgers to choose from. I had the Green and Gold beef burger with mature cheddar, fresh avo, and crispy onions on a brioche bun (R135). The Simple + Brie-zee and Fetter + Just Chilling burgers were also on option, as was the vegan Duhhhrk Knight.
Veggie Dumpies (butternut and sweet potato gnocchi, R120), Get in Line, Fishes (salmon, tender stem broccoli, R240) and sides of Sporty and Posh Spice were also served (spiced lentil and caramelised onion rice, and cauliflower couscous with toasted almonds. Both R35).
For dessert, we were presented with YumBurger – brownie, Nutella, toasted almonds, gelato and saucy fudge (R75). Our table neighbours got some Liking them Vegan, which is also a brownie but with dairy-free chocolate and vegan ice cream (R75).
I absolutely loved the quirky names of all the dishes. We can all do with a bit of fun and not taking ourselves so seriously. It’s also great that the menu clearly marks dishes as vegan/vegetarian, etc. So you can choose according to your lifestyle! OUIBar takes what could be simple dishes and gives them some additional yummy oompf. And that’s pretty great if you ask me.
So, thank you Chef Maxine and thank you Radisson RED for celebrating women!
