Our Favourite Valentine’s Day Bubblies (Great For Last-Minute Gifts)

Valentine's Day Bubblies

It’s Valentine’s Day! That means that half of you are probably running around thinking, oh gosh, I’m supposed to give someone a present? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with our fave Valentine’s Day bubblies that make the best presents. They’re all decently priced, widely available, and guaranteed to be delicious, so you can pick them up on your way home or to dinner and surprise the one you love. And if you’re single, like us, then just pick up a bottle for yourself 😉

Paul Rene

Paul Rene has always been a firm I Love Foodies favourite. I think the first time I had Paul Rene was at a restaurant launch two years ago. I can’t remember the restaurant (and if I remember correctly it has since closed down), but I definitely do remember the bubbles. Since then we’ve visited the actual farm countless times, enjoyed the bubbles countless times, and have made sure Paul Rene always has a place in our hearts … and kitchen cupboards. You can get the Paul Rene Brut, but the Paul Rene Brut Rose is our bubbly of choice.

Estimated retail price R190 – R230, depending on where you buy.

Da Luca

Da Luca is another one of those bubblies I first encountered at a restaurant launch. It was a stylish Camps Bay place, and I distinctly remember thinking that the bubbly was one of the most delicious I’ve ever had – and subsequently found out it was Da Luca. Technically Da Luca is a prosecco, but all bubblies are equal in my eyes – and especially for the sake of this article. The standard Da Lacu prosecco is a winner, but the Sparkling Rose is pretty in pink, perfect for Valentine’s Day.

Estimated retail price R89 – R110, depending on where you buy.

Graham Beck

You can never go wrong with some Graham Beck. Never. I can’t decide whether the Brut or the Brut Rose is my favourite, but hailed as one of South African’s finest, you’re guaranteed to win no matter which bottle you get.

Estimated retail price R155 – R270, depending on which one you get and where you buy.

Leopard’s Leap Sparkling Chardonnay Pinot Noir

Ghastly, I’m out of bottles of the Leopard’s Leap Sparkling Chardonnay Pinot Noir, which I found a little surprising rummaging through my cupboards coz last time I checked I had four bottles of this favourite. But, alas, I do have a bottle of the Chardonnay Pinot Noir, which you’re getting a pic of. And a nice Facebook pic – courtesy of Leopard’s Leap – of the Sparkling one, which I’d suggest you’d get for your loved one this Valentine’s Day. Considering my four bottles have vanished, you can guess how good this one is.

Estimated retail price R90, depending on where you buy.

Moet & Chandon

I also don’t have a bottle of Moet & Chandon left anymore – New Year’s Eve was fun – but this is also one you can never go wrong with. The Brut and the Brut Rose are divine, though my personal absolute favourite is the Ice Imperial. It’s a little on the sweet side, and meant to be mixed with fruits and cordials, but I’d literally go gaga for a bottle of this. There, now you know what to get me for Valentine’s Day. Haha.

Moet & Chandon is slightly more expensive, starting at around R480 a bottle, but, again, this is largely dependent on which one you buy and where you buy it. The Moet Ice Imperial averages at around R700 a bottle.

So there you go, my personal favourite Valentine’s Day bubblies. You won’t go wrong with any of these bottles, so splurge according to your budget, and make sure the one you love knows that you love him/her. Me? I’ll be spending Valentine’s Day showing myself some love. I’ve got the bubbly already 😉
