The I Love Foodies Top Three London Restaurants of 2018

Every year I do an I Love Foodies Top Restaurants of the Year list. Some years it’s pretty easy to choose; other years it’s a little harder. But the requirements to land on my list hardly change – world-class food, originality, excellent service, and an all-round perfect experience.

99% of the time the restaurants I choose are fine dining, as this is my preferred dining style, but this does not discount all the other amazing cafes, markets, or casual restaurants I experience throughout the year. I eat out a lot. This year alone we’ve published over 160 reviews on I Love Foodies, and that doesn’t count the numerous restaurants I eat at that I’m not reviewing. So needless to say if a restaurant stands out so much I can’t forget about it when the end of the year rolls in, then it’s bound to be pretty awesome.

This year, though, I spent my time between Cape Town and London, so I’m actually publishing TWO top three articles, one focusing on Cape Town and one focusing on London. You’re currently on the London article. Read the Cape Town article here.

So let’s have it, the I Love Foodies Top Three London Restaurants of 2018 – in alphabetical order – are:

Interlude

Interlude is run by South African chef Jean Delport. I already loved the food he created when he was in South Africa, and he’s taken it to a whole new level now that he’s moved over to the UK.

We tried 18 courses at Interlude, every single one of them truly unique, truly full of flavour, and truly exceptional. It’s hard to create dishes that are all one-of-a-kind, but Chef Jean succeeds again and again. It was an honour to dine at Interlude, and I’m beyond ecstatic to include them on my top London restaurant list. (They’re based in Horsham, but close enough to London.)

The Oxford Blue

The Oxford Blue was the first restaurant I reviewed in London. I’ll be honest, it set the bar pretty high. Actually situated just outside of London in Old Windsor, the Oxford Blue is a unique fine dining pub that promises the best of the best.

The Oxford Blue offers some great British items – I tried Black Pudding and Pig’s Trotters – as well as worldly favourites. Their commitment to excellence – in both quality of service and food – is pretty hard to beat, and every dish you have here is bound to be exceptional.

Dining here truly was a life-changing experience, and I’m honoured to have them on my top London restaurants list.

Tom Simmons

Tom Simmons is a restaurant that definitely surprised me. I dined with them while exploring the One Tower Bridge area just off Tower Bridge, not knowing much about them, and certainly not expecting this level of excellency.

But I was met with some truly unique dishes that blew my mind. What still stands out though were the gorgeous crispy layered potatoes and the apple terrine. This latter is honestly one of the best desserts I have ever tasted!
