Every year I do an I Love Foodies Top Restaurants of the Year list. Some years it’s pretty easy to choose; other years it’s a little harder. But the requirements to land on my list hardly change – world-class food, originality, excellent service, and an all-round perfect experience.

99% of the time the restaurants I choose are fine dining, as this is my preferred dining style, but this does not discount all the other amazing cafes, markets, or casual restaurants I experience throughout the year. I eat out a lot. This year alone we’ve published over 160 reviews on I Love Foodies, and that doesn’t count the numerous restaurants I eat at that I’m not reviewing. So needless to say if a restaurant stands out so much I can’t forget about it when the end of the year rolls in, then it’s bound to be pretty awesome.

This year, though, I spent my time between Cape Town and London, so I’m actually publishing TWO top three articles, one focusing on Cape Town and one focusing on London. You’re currently on the Cape Town article. Read the London article here.

So let’s have it, the I Love Foodies Top Three Cape Town Restaurants of 2018 – in alphabetical order – are:

I started 2018 off with a bang by dining at Foxcroft in Constantia. Honestly, I have no words for how amazing this spot is. I happened to go on a beautiful day and got to sit outside, enjoying mountain views, but other than the mountains in the distance the location isn’t drop-dead gorgeous. But that won’t matter at Foxcroft because you wouldn’t want to focus on anything but the food.

Every single dish I had here was beyond compare. From Seared Tuna Tataki, Venison Tartare and Honey-Glazed Fig to Pan-Roasted Game and Compressed Strawberry desserts, I’m literally drooling just thinking back about all of this. Foxcroft was also on my Must-Visit Restaurants of 2018 list, and I’m so glad I had the chance to visit.

La Petite Colombe

La Petite Colombe is the ‘petite’ Franschhoek sister restaurant to the world-famous La Colombe. If this means La Colombe is even better than La Petite Colombe, I might just spontaneously combust. I simply cannot imagine a restaurant being even better.

La Petite Colombe deserves every ounce of praise it receives. From excellent service to excellent pairings and even more excellent dishes, dining here will take you on an absolute joy ride, moving from high to high as you go along. I had tried their Spring Menu, and enjoyed beautiful creations like yellowfin tuna, glazed pork with scallop, tortellini of prawn, and chalmar fillet, and every dish was divine.

Tintswalo Atlantic

There are many reasons why Tintswalo Atlantic has made it to the top of this list. Location is certainly one of them. There is certainly no more unique dining experience than the one found at Tintswalo Atlantic. You’re literally right on the ocean, completely isolated, and can capture the most amazing views.

The food, of course, is also exceptional, and while I remember my experience here being a little rushed as I had another appointment to race to, the food stood out. Notably I remember the palate cleanser, just because it was so darn beautiful. But every single dish I had here blew my mind.
