The Galileo Open Air Cinema Summer Launch

Summer! For most Capetonians the longer, warmer days are a sign that the season of after-work sundowners, early-morning runs on the promenade, and daylong poolside lounging has begun. Summer also signals the return of the Galileo Open Air Cinema and I Love Foodies Cape Town was lucky enough to score an invite to the Galileo 2018-2019 Season Launch at Kirstenbosch Gardens.

We were greeted with a chilled welcome drink and ushered down to a gorgeous green lawn where we received our backrests and some cosy blankets. We made a point of arriving early, so it was easy for us to find the perfect spot and get settled in long before the movie was scheduled to start. Once we had secured our spot, we moseyed over to the media table where we were treated to some divine craft beers from Stellenbosch Brewing Co. and some choccies from Frey.

The Foooooood

Although I already had my hands full with popcorn, a seemingly endless supply of chocolate, and a cold beer, it was impossible to ignore the selection of food stalls that were just begging to be approached! Pizza, samosas, sweet treats and the most flavoursome wraps were all on offer – I’d be lying if I said the choice was easy. After much contemplation I decided that it was a weekday after all and I should at least try to be healthy, so I made a beeline for the 2Kitchens wrap stall. Crisp, fresh ingredients, perfectly toasted wraps, and just the right amount of spice – Scrumptious!

The Movie Vibe

Now, I’m about to make a confession, and all the die-hard Patrick Swayze fans have to promise to withhold judgement … until my visit to the Galileo Open Air Cinema, I had never seen the movie Dirty Dancing. I know, completely unacceptable! That being said, I can’t think of a more memorable setting to fall in love with a classic movie like this one.

Am I forgiven?
