Welcoming Sotano on Bree Street

Sotano on Bree Fish & Chips

Back in the day, it was all about Long Street. That was the street to head to for all things clubby, foodie, and nightlife-y. Obviously, that was during my younger years, when I was still a carefree student who had cash to blow on a good time! Now those years have (sadly) left me and I am more mature and a bit more careful. I still love the night life, though, and Bree Street is the way to go. So when I was invited to the launch of a new restaurant on Bree, it was all systems go! New restaurant? Yup, Sotano has opened a second branch at 199 Bree Street!

Now, those who know Sotano will know that their original restaurant is located in Mouille Point. It’s got a wonderful view of the ocean and a clear view of the Mouille Point Lighthouse. And my fellow foodie, Benike, absolutely dies for their seafood linguine. So I was beyond excited that they have brought the goodness closer to the city centre!

Sotano On Bree

The Venue

The Sotano on Bree venue itself is beautiful, vintage-looking with a young fireplace … and the bathrooms, oh my gosh, yes! Nothing worse than a beautiful establishment with an ugly ladies room, right? But even though there is a whole bunch of pretty, there is one dangerous part to Sotano on Bree: The staircase leading to the upstairs part of the restaurant Lol. If you are a heels girl like me who knows what it’s like to lose your balance, you’ll identify with my fears. I had the worst image of me falling down those stairs!!!! But being the lady that I am, I will make sure that each time I’m there I have a good support system that will lead me down those stairs …  or else I will make the stair rails my best friend!

The Drinks

Now, to the food and drinks. On arrival at Sotano on Bree, we were greeted by two tables. One offered a taste of the delicious range of Protea Wines, and the other offered Cruz Vodka. We hopped our heels right over to the vodka table, where we got the most amazing cocktails made with Cruz Vintage Black Vodka and the Cruz Berrylicious Vodka.

Just up the stairs, we were greeted by a world of different cheeses. As mentioned before in my Delheim Jazz & Cheese Fondue review, I am a big fan of cheese. So seeing that table brought joyful tears to my eyes.

The Food

Apart from the cheese, there were also tons thirst quenchers and the most amazing food available. Since we had started on vodka, we moved in that pace, but this time switching to some Beefeater Gin. Wine lovers had a variety to choose from with Warwick to Paul Cluver. And the food? I left Sotano on Bree stuffed because, man, do they know how to feed people! Their food is delicious!

Everything came in miniature versions on the night. But don’t worry: they come in full size when ordered from the menu! We had the cutest and delicious chicken salad, followed by some mini hamburgers, after which we dived into yummy sausages wrapped in bacon! Then we took it back to the beach with the traditional fish and chips and then shut it down with the forever fave, some sushi! The food just kept on coming like water from a waterfall!

All this while listening to the amazing sounds of reggae music from a live band! Can it get better than this?? Safe to say that Sotano will definitely be a go-to every time I am in Bree Street. The launch was beautiful, the vibe was beautiful, and the food was off the charts!
