Being Healthy With Ocean Basket
Sometimes simple is best. And that’s why I love Ocean Basket. Always have. Probably always will. I love their calamari tubes with rice, and if I’m feeling like a little extra splurge I’ll add some prawns. It’s classic. It’s simple. And always tasty. But recently we went to try some of their newer healthy dishes and indulged in some of their starters, which I usually don’t do.
The Sea Point Ocean Basket
My friend Claire and I visited the Sea Point Ocean Basket, a branch I used to visit all the time but actually haven’t been to in ages. It was good to head back! The Ocean Basket menu does change regularly, but thankfully they keep the firm favourites where they belong.
We did, however, find some starter options we hadn’t had before. So Claire and I decided to share the Creamy Mussel Soup (R70) and the Med Rice Balls (crispy rice & halloumi balls; R40). The portions were smaller than expected – particularly the soup – so these starters are definitely meant as starters to be followed by a big meal. I did enjoy the actual soup flavour, but, unfortunately, neither the soup nor the med rice balls hit home for us and I wouldn’t order them again.
But mains definitely did hit home. Claire went for an Ocean Basket classic – Prawns & Fish (R115). I did the healthy option and went for the Vitality Platter. This comes served with grilled fish, calamari, prince prawns, dukkah butter, and roasted Meditteranean veggies. Both options offered the full-on Ocean Basket flavour. That said, I did feel like I was missing out that I didn’t have my usual rice option, and while the veggies were good, being healthy obviously wasn’t working for me that day.
Try Ocean Basket
Despite my occasional craving for the not-so-healthy, being healthy is definitely the better option and what we all should be doing every day. So get ready for summer and cut the carbs by choosing some healthy alternative options at Ocean Basket! Get all the info on Ocean Basket Sea Point below.
