The New Col’Cacchio Summer Menu

We visited Col’Cacchio in the Willowbridge Shopping Centre to try out their new menu and we had the most amazing time! Their summer menu is light and fresh with yummy-looking light meals, main meals, breakfasts and, of course, pizzas and pastas.

When we were seated, we were greeted by our friendly waiter, Moses. Because I live in the area (and have been to Col’Cacchio several times), we had actually had Moses as our waiter before. He’s great: professional, knowledgeable and attentive, so were happy to have him again. I didn’t take long to get stuck into some wine. I ordered a glass of the house white wine – Nederberg Sauvignon Blanc – and my husband ordered a Stella Artois beer.

As a starter, we shared one of their new main dishes and had a salad each. The main dish was absolutely divine! It’s called Tagliata and it consists of sliced sirloin steak, served with a homemade tomato, garlic, chilli and olive oil tagliata sauce. It was delicious! The steak was tender and cooked perfectly and I loved the garlic and chilli sauce. This meal costs R185 and includes a side of your choice (but not the salad pictured here). The salad was also great! It’s called Brioso and it costs R99. It’s made up of lettuce, rocket, roasted beetroot, green yoghurt dressing, feta, roasted butternut chips, crispy onion and pomegranate arils. It was super tasty and a filling meal all on its own!

Next, we were surprised by the Col’Cacchio staff who told us that we were going to be making our own pizzas! How cool is that? They took us to their pizza-making station where we joined the pizza makers and added our own toppings onto our ready-made pizza bases. They had a range of toppings for us to choose from. We ended up choosing olives, bacon, feta, mozzarella, cheddar and peppers for one of the pizzas, and chorizo, peppers, feta, mozzarella and cheddar for the other one. One of the pizza-makers then put the pizzas into the wood-fired oven for us because it was ridiculously hot and we probably would have dropped the pizza on the floor! They brought the pizzas to us a short while later – and they were real good if we do say so ourselves! The bases are light and crispy too.

Then, we also got to try one of their pastas! We tried the Funghi Bianco for R120. It’s comprised of exotic mushrooms, cream, herbs and parmesan cheese. This was super tasty! I loved the creaminess of this dish and the saltiness of the parmesan cheese! This pasta dish paired wonderfully with a glass of their house red wine. Yum!

As if that wasn’t enough, we were treated to a dessert too! Here, we were presented with an assortment of the desserts they typically offer: a chocolate brownie, vanilla ice cream, Italian kisses, Meringa and some fresh fruit. What a treat! I loved the chocolate brownie and the chocolate sauce! It was very chocolatey though, so the ice cream went perfectly with it. I also loved the Meringa, as it reminded me of the “Eton Mess” dessert that I’m fond of. It is comprised of crushed meringue, berries, cream and a berry coulis. It was really scrumptious and costs R50.

They have quite an extensive, decent wine list, but you can also order cocktails, which looked really nice. In summer, it will be awesome to sit outside and sip on a refreshing cocktail.
