Summer Cocktails At Incognito At The Alphen Hotel

Incognito

If you are in the mood for poolside cocktails in the lush and leafy suburb of Constantia, look no further than the Alphen Hotel’s newly refurbished eatery and bar, Incognito. Large glass windows make the most of the incredible view and the décor is fresh and sophisticated, ensuring the perfect poolside adventure.

I have gone back to working a full day job after running my own practice for several years, so when Friday rolls around I find myself counting down the hours to a drink (don’t judge), preferably somewhere that makes the most of our perfect summer evenings. Incognito certainly hits the spot.  The outside décor is comfy and reminiscent of sitting at a good friend’s beautifully appointed house on the patio while gazing out at an immaculate garden and meticulously maintained pool, all with the added advantage of having people on hand to bring you delicious cocktails and snacks.

The menu is more on the tapas style of things than main meals and offers light bites, bruschetta and pizzette, which are a perfect pairing for cocktails, which my friend Jane and I happily got stuck into on arrival.  I decided to embrace the 90s music vibe by channelling Sex and the City and ordered a cosmo.  Jane opted for a more sophisticated whisky sour, both of which were refreshing and delicious.

We perused the menu and ordered an array of what was on offer. The portion sizes are definitely on the smaller side, and so are conducive to friends sharing several different dishes.  We tried the fried stuffed olives, the sage chicken with sage and gremolata, the aubergine rolls with parmesan, mozzarella and tomato sauce, as well as the asparagus pizzette (small pizza), all of which were totally yummy.  I was very impressed with the chef who steered me away from the calamari once he heard I had a linefish allergy, just to be totally safe. (Shellfish is fine but I rely on a chef’s honesty to ensure there is no chance of cross-contamination).

Incognito has a slightly different vibe happening on different days over the weekend.  Friday is Secrets (vibey, accessible tunes), Saturday is Studio 54 (timeless, classy classics), and Sunday offers Live Jazz.

If you are wanting an after-work cocktail to prepare you for the weekend, a place to take the family for a sophisticated yet relaxed poolside dinner, or a place to chill and catch up with friends in the southern suburbs, Incognito is the ideal venue.
