Every year I draw up a list of must-visit restaurants, aka, my foodie resolutions. Last year I managed to knock three off my list – The Raptor Room, Pigalle, and Reverie Social Table – but I have a feeling that this year’s list will be a little harder to complete. Why? Because the spots on here are just so darn good! But I’ve never been one to shy away from a challenge, so here it goes, my must-visit restaurants of 2018!!!!
The Test Kitchen
Yeah, yeah, yeah, the Test Kitchen has been on here for the last two years. But who knows, maybe 2018 will be the year I make this dream come true. It’s hailed as the best restaurant around and certainly needs no introduction. Last I checked it was booked out for the first half of the year, but maybe I’ll get lucky and snag a “last-minute” reservation.
The Pot Luck Club
The Pot Luck Club is new on my list, though I’ve certainly been well aware of the prestige of this spot for quite some time. I like to call it the Test Kitchen’s little brother, with food just as divine but prices a little more affordable and reservations a little more manageable. Or so I’m told. Perhaps I’ll get this one off my list before the Test Kitchen.
La Mouette has also been on my list for a few years, and I’m deeply disappointed that I still haven’t managed to go. It’s a firm favourite of many of my friends, so this one certainly ranks top of my list of places to visit. I think I definitely have to get this one off my must-visit list in 2018!
I know, I know, everyone has been to Babylonstoren. Except me. With beautiful food and beautiful scenery, I’ve been told dozens of times that this is the wine estate to visit. So it’ll definitely have to be on my must-visit list of 2018!
This is another firm favourite that was on my list in 2016, but for some reason wasn’t on my list last year. What was I thinking? I’ve obviously returned to sanity and am re-adding La Colombe to my list. Mostly because the Instagram images of this place always haunt me and I have tons of foodie jealousy.
Foxcroft is another new addition. The restaurant seems to have taken Cape Town by storm in 2017, and pictures of it were popping up everywhere! Hopefully I’ll manage to visit this spot this year.
Everyone always talks about Cheyne’s. It’s a classic Hout Bay establishment that never fails to impress, and I’m always terribly embarrassed that I’ve never been. Hopefully if I put it on my list this year this dream will come true.
Ellerman House was recommended to me by a good friend about four years ago. And everytime I drive past I think about how badly I want to go there. And I never do. Perhaps 2018 will be the year!
High Tea At The Mount Nelson
Ok, so this one isn’t only about the spot but the specific experience. I’ve only ever been to a High Tea once. When it comes to High Teas, I’d say the Mount Nelson experience is most iconic. And I’ve always, always, always wanted to go there!
And there you have it, my must-visit restaurants of 2018! There’s a million more I could add: The Silo, Villa 47, the new Ritz revolving restaurant … but I think if I have eight on my list that’s a good place to start. Right?
Do you have any restaurants you would love to try this year? Or do you have any restaurants you recommend I absolutely have to try? Let me know in the comments below or via e-mail!
