Harringtons Cocktail Lounge in Cape Town is everyone’s dream – if you have style, of course.

It’s been the venue for more I Love Foodies parties than any other place.

And for good reason – it’s chic and classy and they know how to serve up great tapas and some of the best cocktails in town.

Post-lockdown, they’ve also resumed in offering some amazing specials that are pretty hard to beat.

So, if you haven’t been, let me introduce you to Harringtons Cocktail Lounge and all the amazing deals they’re running.

Why Do We Love Harringtons Cocktail Lounge?

But, first, if you’ve never been to Harringtons (gasp!), what makes this venue so special?

Of course, you can visit any other venue in town for good food and drinks but very few offer the same venue appeal as Harringtons does.

I’ve always described it as Gatsbian. When I first walked in for their launch party oh-so-many years ago, I was immediately struck by the golden bar, the plush booths, the ambience that speaks of a time long gone.

Then, I referred to it as harking back to the Roaring 20s, the Gatsbian era of F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Of course, now we’re in the 20s again. Thus far I’d say the 2020s haven’t been Roaring but, hey, it’s still the start of the decade – there is time for it to redeem itself. And hopefully not end in a Great Depression.

There certainly is nothing to be depressed about at Harringtons.

The interior will leave you feeling chic and cosy, the service has always been astounding, and there’s always great food, great drinks, and good happy-dance music.

Harringtons Cocktail Lounge Menu & Prices

You’re likely to think that Harringtons Cocktail Lounge isn’t the cheapest – but you’d be mistaken.

With cocktails and tapas averaging around R60 and a hoard of hard-to-beat deals, Harringtons actually offers some of the best dining value in town.

Harringtons Food Menu

Harringtons has recently partnered with celebrity chef Jason Whitehead, who has elevated the food to a whole new level.

Some I Love Foodies favourites include:

  • Mozzarella Arancini (R55): Served with a tomato ragout.
  • Harry’s Flatbread (R70): We like the mozzarella, bacon, feta, basil pesto, and avocado option.
  • Crumbed & Fried Fish Tacos (R75): With corn salsa, garlic creme, and pickled red onion.
  • Pan-Seared Rib-Eye (R175; main course): Served with potato puree, pak choy, brown mushrooms, artichokes, chilli-soy and truffle butter.

Of these, I’d probably have to say that the pan-seared rib-eye is my absolute favourite.

This is one of the dishes that was wonderful before Jason joined the team – but now it’s beyond divine!

It’s certainly not your standard steak-on-a-plate dish but it will excite your tastebuds one bite at a time. I can quite confidently say that this is one of the best steak dishes I’ve had in my entire life.

Harringtons Cocktail Menu

Harringtons has always been known for their amazing cocktail menu.

Of course, their entire drinks menu is spectacular, and they offer a wide selection of classic and house cocktails, beers, ciders, wines, champagne, and hard spirits.

They also offer something in every price range.

You can spend a few thousand Rand on a bottle of Dom Perignon if that’s your vibe. But you can also spend under R100 for one of the best Margaritas in town.

Options matter.

Harringtons Cocktail Lounge Specials

Daily Happy Hour & Half Price Tapas

Every day is a happy day at Harringtons Cocktail Lounge, with happy hour drink deals and half-price tapas every day (Tuesday – Sunday) between 16:00 and 18:00.

Happy Hour includes:

  • 2-for-1 deals on classic cocktails and select beers, spirits, and house wines

Half-price tapas includes:

  • 50% off all tapas on the menu

I Love Foodies recommendation? Come at around 17:30 and order ahead for an early dinner. Two cocktails are plenty and 2-3 tapas is more than enough (3-5 if you’re very hungry). You can always grab another drink or dessert later in the evening.

Wine Wednesday Evenings

These are probably the best evenings at Harringtons.

Each month, they collaborate with a different wine estate, and you’ll get to enjoy a delicious dinner paired with one of the wines PLUS a full wine tasting.

A representative from the estate will always be there to answer all your questions about the wine.

I always end up in lengthy discussions with the wine estate host and usually walk away smarter than I was before, which, in my book, makes for a great evening.

You’ll definitely enjoy your Wine Wednesday evenings.

R160 per person gets you:

  • Aperitivo glass of wine on arrival
  • One main meal
  • A glass of wine of your choice with the main meal
  • Petit four dessert platter
  • Complimentary wine tasting

If you’re not interested in the meal deal, you can also join in for the wine tasting only at R50 per person.

Main course options include Caesar Salad, Calamari & Hake Tempura, Pan-Seared Ribeye, or Chermoula Vegetables (vegan), with a few monthly variations.

Featured estate: The featured wine estates for the next little while are:

  • October is Beyerskloof
  • November is Kleine Zalze
  • December is Altydgedacht

Spring Brunch Saturdays

Every Saturday, Harringtons is also offering a brand new deal: Spring Brunch Saturdays!

From 11:00 – 14:30, you’ll get to enjoy a bottomless brunch menu.

R150 per person gets you:

  • A choice of 4 different brunch dishes
  • Bottomless cocktail teapots with Hendrick’s Gin, cucumber tonic, and “spice and all things nice”

Brunch options include a Fried Chicken Waffle, Smoked Trout Quiche, Yoghurt & Berries, or a Courgette & Potato Rosti (vegan).

After-brunch cocktails are available at R65 each and include a variety of unique Hendrick’s Gin cocktails, including the English Serve (with elderflower, apple, and cucumber), Limbo Collins (with a twist of lemon), and the Passionate Young Lady (with passion fruit).

[Curious about gin? Read our full article on how gin is made.]

The best thing about the bottomless brunch?

The cocktail teapots.

This is a true Hendrick’s Gin classic that you’re likely to have encountered before if you’ve travelled overseas.

As far as I know, Harringtons is the only spot offering this in Cape Town, and it’s definitely worth experiencing.
