Our Favourite Foodie Festive Season Gifts
The festive season is a time of many things – love, celebration, family – but it’s also a time for gifting. My family always goes a little crazy when it comes to buying presents for each other, though I’m assuming most people in this world stick to one or two gifts per person, which is totally ok – as long as they’re good (that doesn’t mean expensive) ones.
As a foodie, many gifts randomly find their way to my doorstep – which is always particularly appreciated, especially during the festive season. So here are a few of these festive season gifts that I’ve really enjoyed and that would make great gifts for either yourself or others. Enjoy!
The Gin Box Christmas Edition
The Gin Box is pretty rad and definitely tops on my list for festive season gifts. We attended their launch event a while back (you can read about it here) but I haven’t had the chance to try it personally – until now. In a nutshell, the guys at the Gin Box put together a beautiful box of gin and gin accessories, and you can order this as a once-off gift (R750) or on a monthly, bi-monthly, or quarterly subscription (R650 per box).
The Christmas Gin Box is particularly cool. It includes three smaller bottles of Hope on Hopkins gin – the Gold, Myrrh and Frankincense – as well as two bottles of Goldberg Japanese Yuzu Tonic, gingerbread, pears in red wine, and a Fat Santa Bar. There’s also a little packet of cinnamon and dried strawberry slices for your perfect G&T. I mixed the Hope on Hopkins Gold gin with the tonic and added both the cinnamon and strawberry – and I was very impressed!
Of course I had already gobbled down the gingerbread and the Fat Santa Bar, both perfect additions to any Christmas mix. Overall, the Gin Box is a gift that’s not only beautiful, but super delicious and innovative as well!

Zari Sparkling Grape
The festive season is definitely a time for bubbles – but not everybody drinks alcohol. That’s where Zari Sparkling Grape steps in. The bottles are designed to look 100% like a champagne bottle – popping cork and all – and are astoundingly beautiful. But on the inside it’s 100% alcohol-free sparkling grape juice. There’s a red and a white option available, made from 100% single cultivar Cape Muscat Seedless grapes, and both are delicious. They also have a screw-top version, which is great for those summer picnics. For a more in-depth review, check this out.
For more information, visit their official website here. Online they sell for R299 or R239 for a box of six for cork and screw-top respectively.
Skunk Glass Straws
I came across these Skunk Glass straws on Instagram a few weeks ago, and loved the beauty of their product and their message. I’m a big fan of keeping the environment clean and definitely a supporter of the Refuse The Straw movement! The glass straws are a great alternative – hand-made with beautiful decorations, and they’re nice and thick so you can also slurp your smoothie through them.
For more information, please check out their Instagram page or e-mail them directly at email@example.com. You can also visit their stockist at the Old Biscuit Mill, the Bead and Glass Cabin. If I recall correctly they’re currently selling at R100 for two.
Ok, so this may not be the perfect festive season gift idea, but it’s definitely the perfect snacking idea. Popcorn Tribe has launched with a variety of super unique popcorn flavours that make plain ol’ butter popcorn seem like a thing of the past. I’ll confess, I gobbled up quite a few before I took my photos – I was hungry, ok!? – so you won’t see all the flavours in the pic. But some of the flavours include Caramel Crunch, Caramel and Khoisan Salt, Bourbon Vanilla, Smoked Paprika, Butter Chicken Curry, and Coconut Sugar. I’m a caramel girl so the Caramel Crunch was definitely my favourite!
