Coffee For Beauty | Adding Coffee To Your Skincare Regime
Do you love the aroma that fills your kitchen as you prepare your morning pot of coffee? Well, then it is quite obvious that you love coffee. It is also probable that you have been repeatedly warned how harmful coffee can be for your health. But haters gonna hate, right? If you are flocked by people who say coffee isn’t good for you, then it’s time to show them how beneficial coffee can be, especially for your beauty!
Benefits Of Coffee
Coffee for beauty? Yes! Coffee not only acts as a brain and energy booster, but it can also be an important part of your daily beauty regime. Before going into the details, let us understand some of the great benefits of coffee for your skin that make coffee for beauty treatments possible:
- Coffee is rich in antioxidants: The extract from coffee beans is loaded with antioxidants. When externally applied, this extract can protect the skin from free radicals that cause skin cells to wilt, thereby making the skin look old and saggy. Regular application of the extract can prevent and reverse this process, thus making your skin look youthful.
- Protects against UV rays of the sun: If you are someone who spends a lot of time in the sun, then your skin may be affected by harmful UV rays. Direct exposure to UV rays for a long period of time on a regular basis will not only increase the chances of external skin damage but may also be the reason for cancer. Coating your skin with a layer of caffeine from coffee can prevent the harmful rays from coming in direct contact with your skin, thus preventing cell damage and cancer.
- Improves blood circulation: Since application of ground coffee beans is known to help improve blood circulation, it can make the skin look more youthful.
- Improved skin tone: The use of coffee can be attributed to a smooth and lively skin tone. This happens because coffee aids in proper cellular growth, which increases skin collagen and, thus, skin elasticity.
Various Coffee Hacks For A Beautiful You
Now that we’ve looked at all the health properties of coffee, let’s look at some practical applications of coffee for beauty and how to implement it into your beauty and skincare regime.
Are you someone who wakes up every morning with red and puffy eyes? Does the swelling make you look tired and haggard? Well, then it is time to use some coffee to de-puff your baggy eyes. All you need is the ground coffee that’s left behind from your morning brew. Let the ground coffee cool down completely and apply it to the swollen areas. Keep it on for about 10-15 minutes and then wash it off. You will soon be able to see the difference that coffee makes.
An important part of any beauty regime is exfoliating. You need to remove the dead cells from your skin to be able to see the youthful skin layer below it. And coffee acts as a perfect exfoliator. Ground your coffee beans and use them to exfoliate your skin. Since the grounds contain caffeic acid, collagen production is also enhanced.
Instead of using harmful chemicals for brightening up your skin, use some ground coffee beans. Thoroughly wash your face or any other area that you want to apply coffee to. You can then mix 1 tbsp of ground coffee with 2 tbsp of plain yogurt and apply the mix to the area. Leave it for about 15 minutes and then wash the mix off. Your skin will look brighter and that without using any cosmetics.
Coffee can also help in the reduction of visible cellulite. Using a coffee scrub on a regular basis will not only help to improve blood flow but also tighten the skin pores so that cellulite isn’t visible externally.
Exfoliating the Scalp
Ground coffee can not only help exfoliate your face and body, but it can also be used to exfoliate your scalp. Your scalp, like any other section of your skin, gets covered with a layer of dead cells that can make your scalp itchy and cause hair to fall out as well as other scalp issues. Ground coffee can be used for removing the dead hair cells and imparting natural shine to your hair. Take about 1/3 cup of ground coffee and apply it to your scalp when wet. Massage for about a minute and then rinse off. Follow your regular hair wash regime afterward.
Tinting Your Hair
Coffee not only helps you get bright and youthful skin but also helps in adding a brown tint to your hair. Yes, that’s right. No harmful hair colours involved. All you need to do is add some ground coffee (about 1-2 tbsps) to your conditioner, apply it to your hair, and leave it on for about 5 minutes. Wash off and see the nice chestnut tint that has developed.
Soothing Tired Feet
Don’t let your chapped feet give you a hard time. Instead, use some coffee to soothe your feet. This can be done by making a scrub from coffee and coconut. Coconut oil helps in moisture retention, while coffee has anti-oxidant properties that work together in removing rough skin and repairing it to give soft soothed feet. The mix is very simple to make and needs only half a cup of ground coffee, virgin coconut oil (about 1 cup) and a very small amount of vanilla extract. The mix can be used for other rough areas of the skin as well.
As you can see, coffee isn’t useful only as a morning brew. Ultimately, it’s coffee for beauty, not just “food”. It has a number of beauty benefits as well, which, when incorporated into our beauty regime, can do wonders. The benefits of coffee are so multifarious that even a tea-lover will have to admit that coffee deserves a special place in our daily lives, whether that be as an aromatic morning drink or as an important beauty care ingredient. So, even if you don’t want to drink coffee, don’t shy away from it topical benefits.
