Cape Town’s Must-Visit Fine Dining Restaurants of 2019

Cape Town is well-known for its culinary culture, and anyone who lives here knows that there is a wealth of restaurants that should make it on to any must-visit list. While there are many, many restaurants we would have liked to include on this list, we eventually cut it down to include only the fine dining establishments that we absolutely adore, so here is our Cape Town’s must-visit fine dining restaurants of 2019 list!

The Test Kitchen

The Test Kitchen has always been one of Cape Town star restaurants, and it’s no secret why. From gourmet dishes to expert presentation and interesting pairings, The Test Kitchen has always explored new foodie avenues, and they’re once again on the I Love Foodies must-visit fine dining restaurants of 2019 list.

The Test Kitchen offers set menu experiences starting from R2000 per person, excluding pairings.

The Pot Luck Club

Sister restaurant to The Test Kitchen, this gem is equally gourmet-licious but easier on the pocket and in terms of waiting list time. It offers innovate cuisine in a trendy environment, and is open for brunch, lunch, and dinner.

The Pot Luck Club offers a tapas-style dining environment at an average of R150 per dish.

The Shortmarket Club

This is one of the restaurants that I Love Foodies has visited before on numerous occasions, and we’d like to call it the slightly cheaper yet equally gourmet Test Kitchen. By the same team as the former two, this restaurant is the latest addition and offers amazing dishes.

The Shortmarket Club is open for lunch and dinner and serves an a la carte menu at an average of R250 a meal. Look out for their amazing winter lunch special menu that they serve every year after May.

La Mouette

La Mouette has been on the I Love Foodies must-visit restaurant list forever, and it’s back again this year. Situated in Sea Point, this timeless gem offers an a la carte menu as well as set tasting pairings with interesting dishes.

Currently the summer tasting menu is available at R550 (R975 with wine pairing), the summer two-course meal at R350, and the summer three-course meal at R450, excluding wine pairings.

Foxcroft

We fell in love with Foxcroft in 2018, and this restaurant will remain one of our absolute favourites. Situated in Constantia, it offers a calm and relaxing ambiance, and will absolutely blow you away in terms of food. Every dish on their menu is absolutely divine.

Foxcroft offers a four-course set menu at R495 per person for lunch and R545 for dinner.

Reverie Social Table

Reverie Social Table is the gem of Observatory. The restaurant is simple and true to its concept: One long table, eighteen guests, and one giant dinner party experience. Chef Julia is exquisite in the kitchen, and, with an ever-changing menu, is sure to wow her diners every single time.

Reverie Social Table serves a five-course set menu with wine pairing for R820. A Lunch Specials menu is also available on weekdays.

La Colombe

La Colombe in Constantia is another one of those Cape Town fine-dining establishments that will leave you coming back again and again. The dishes are absolute art pieces, but you’ll want to eat them anyway – your taste buds will thank you.

La Colombe offers eight-to-eleven-course set menus with or without wine pairing, starting at R1095 per person.

ALSO: La Petite Colombe is the smaller Franschhoek-based sister restaurant of La Colombe. You’ll find the same exquisite food and dining experience, just in a different location. Perfect for those wanting to take a day trip out to the beautiful Franschhoek area.

Fyn Restaurant

A newer kid to the block, Fyn Restaurant aims to offer absolute excellence. Combining the kitchen and dining room and offering a giant 60-seater space, this restaurant by Peter Tempelhoff, Ashley Moss, and Jennifer Huge will offer you exquisite dishes with the aim to impress.

Fyn offers set menus at R550 for lunch and R975 for dinner. Plant-based menus available.

Greenhouse

The highly acclaimed Greenhouse Restaurant in Constantia offers superb dishes in the most relaxing atmosphere, surrounded by the beautiful gardens of Cellars-Hohenort.

Greenhouse serves a variety of tasting menus for lunch and dinner, starting at R550 per person.
