Can CBD Help You Lose Weight?
You’ve probably heard of CBD as a solution for practically everything from anxiety to insomnia and chronic pain. But here’s a new one: CBD could help you lose weight. It can help you manage fat and your body’s ability to burn calories, and may reduce your intake of food as well.
What is CBD?
First thing’s first: What exactly is CBD? CBD is a cannabinoid, one of more than 100 found in the cannabis plant. CBD is short for cannabidiol, and is usually sourced from industrial hemp. Another common cannabinoid is THC. However, THC has a psychoactive effect, whereas CBD does not. CBD won’t get you high – it just offers therapeutic effects.
How Can CBD Help With Weight Loss?
Wait a second. Doesn’t cannabis increase your appetite? After all, marijuana users are frequently hit with the munchies. And it’s true, marijuana could make you want to eat more. But CBD isn’t the same as marijuana, and this cannabinoid could be helpful for weight loss and/or maintaining a healthy weight.
One of the major ways CBD can help with weight loss is in how your body manages fat. You have white fat cells and brown fat cells in your body. White fat cells are generally considered bad, and are responsible for increasing your risk of chronic conditions such as heart disease and diabetes. But brown fat cells are good, and burn off energy as heat, which can help the body burn more calories.
Recent research has found that CBD can help turn white fat cells into brown ones. That means CBD can help your body more efficiently break down fat in your body and, ultimately, lead to weight loss. Plus, it can potentially improve your overall health and risk of chronic health conditions.
There’s also research that suggests CBD could help with appetite. If you tend to overeat, this is good news. A study of rats found that exposure to CBD resulted in reduced appetite, so you might be able to manage your food intake better if you’re taking CBD regularly.
Is CBD Safe to Use?
This all sounds great, but CBD is a drug. It’s a cousin of THC. Some people are hesitant to use it, understandably, but overall, CBD is regarded as both effective and safe for therapeutic use.
The World Health Organization‘s critical review of CBD found that CBD has a good safety profile. You can expect little risk of side effects, addiction, or dependency.
But even though CBD is generally safe to use, it’s still a good idea to be cautious. Look into the reputation of suppliers by using online reviews, and always make sure you look for a third party testing certificate that indicates the CBD product you’re purchasing has acceptable purity and potency.
Should You Use CBD For Weight Loss?
If you’re looking for a weight loss solution, CBD might be helpful. While using CBD alone won’t help you go down three sizes, it could be a great support tool that can boost your efforts. Talk to a medical professional about how CBD can fit into your treatment plan for weight loss.
